Steve Ellwood

I’m a part-time artist, born in Essex, England but now living and working in Bronllys, Wales.

I have been studying art with Jantien Powell at Chapel Cottage Studio, near Abergavenny, since 2014, but also attending classes with other artists including Richard Suckling, Trevor Osborne, Peter Cronin and Oriane Pierrepoint.

I paint with soft pastels, acrylics and inks, drawing my inspiration from my tutors and other artists such as Martin Truefitt-baker and Hashim Akib. I am currently focusing on developing my technique with soft pastels due to the strong colours and bold marks that they can produce.

My subject matter includes animals, landscapes, seascapes and more recently I’ve ventured into portraiture.

In July 2023 I was lucky enough to win 1st prize in the Pontypool ArtRegen En Plein Air painting competition with a pastel painting of the Pontypool Park woods.

Since January 2023 I have also been learning ceramics with Becky Millikin at Millikin Ceramics in Kingstone, Herefordshire.
